Usually the biggest beach break we have. Works from half tide down. Better on spring tides though as the rips don't flatten out the wave. Low tide becomes a heavy dumping close out but occasionally gets good lefts and the odd right at the corners of the bay. Renound for closing out though, onshores give it a bit more shape sometimes. It is a pain to get in to though because of the boulders. It can get crowded in Summer and on good days. Has been surfed at high tide when the West coast is maxing out.

I've been surfing Portinfer along with a few friends for a number of years now, and I think that the first thing that I think of when I hear Portinfer is the word 'power'. It is not recommended going in at low tide or when the tide is on its way up, because of the heavy closeouts. But when the tide is on its way down is when it's best. The problem in the winter is that when you wipe out and get dragged under then there is a chance that you will hit jagged, sharp nasty rocks. This is because the beach is sandier during the summer months and therefore safer. When the surf is really maxed out the break in the center of the beach is radical, there is also a reef break to the side of the beach towards the car park, which you can get a nice left off. Also at high tide, only a few minutes away is a great left and right break known as 'The Knife'. I would recommend surfing Portinfer but think that Vazon is the better place to start off at as it is usually cleaner.
