The locals are out of control or at least they were in 2000, I had a fight on the beach with one old guy who wiped out on my head. But this year (2003) they were fine. What a wave eh? Someone nicked our BBQ this year, gutted.
A good left with a barrelling first section with potential for cover ups when the tide is at the right height and good length rides. There is serious localism, I got purposely 'wiped out on' and held under the water amazingly, first time anything like thats happened in 10 years surfing. Definitely worth a visit if you are touring across the north coast of Spain. Toilets and resturant nearby with fresh water and beach showers, fabulous scenery, nice latino beach ladies.
I have spent serious time surfing in Spain. Rodlies is a funny place. It can get good, no doubt, but the atmosphere here is way out of control. I was surfing here once, early in the morning. I was the first guy in the water... it was about 4-6 clean and barreling for 50m. One local guy came out. I gave him a big smile and threw him a shaka. He smiled back, and we surfed alone together for about an hour. Laughing, hooting for each other, calling each other into waves... how it should be... bliss. Then his buddys showed up. A group of five or six locals. The first kid that I had been surfing with wouldn't look me in the eye. Then all the bloody tourist kooks in their campers woke up... and they paddled out too. There were now about 15 people in the water. The local crew just started acting insane! Screaming at everybody. Dropping in. fighting! nuts!
