Yes it closes out, but wait til mid to high tide and you'll see it working at its best, longer rides with tubey sections, saw the locals doing it fine!
Pretty powerful, fast and hollow, virtual closeout. It seems to break at the same spot, if its 1ft or 6ft. - a agreat alternative to the reefs when they're blown out or flat. Seems to pick up tons of swell...
Powerful, hollow and fast! When Cotillo works and you get in the right position you can get some great sucky tubes. Paddle out from the reef at the North end and the rip will shoot you out back.
Paddle out, take off, pull in, get barrelled, get nailed. Paddle out, take off, pull in, get barrelled, get nailed. Paddle out, take off, pull in, get barrelled, get nailed. Fun for the whole family.
I surfed this beach every day for a week & scored some heavy barrels, mostly closeouts with near vertical drop in's but that what a bodyboard's for. Definately recommend this wave anytime.
You never have to paddle too much at Cotillo - it breaks in shallow water (sand bottom mostly) and always breaks at the same outside spot whether it is 2 foot or 10 foot. Cotillo can get very good - watch where the locals take off. There are plenty of waves where you can get a long ride, if you take off at the right spot and you can get some nice barrels here. There can be a fairly strong current running parallel to shore so keep paddling to keep yourself in the right take off position. Fun wave if you know what you're doing.
This Break is seriously Gnarly, Big closeouts, guaranteed to get barreled, although the sand gets into every hole and crevice known to man, maybe a bit hard to access but well worth it, theres even a windmill nearby which is almost better than the surf itself!! it's a gnarly windmill with a castle nearby aswell, and a small town, this place is like the centre of the universe, it's a pilgrimage for everyone to take, wether a surfer or not!! must go there, just book a flight and you'll be laughing, its like Hawaii but a bit closer.
This wave was too hollow to ride when we went in February. It's one of the few beach breaks on north Fuerte but I'd say is not ideal for beginners. I got spanked!
