Often surfable when Saltburn etc are blown out from northerlies. Rips are occasionally a problem.

When Saltburn is huge and theres not much wind Runswick bay gets good. There's the outside right which is a very long paddle but holds massive swells, mid reef which is still some paddle but worth it. And then there's the inside which gets good on the other side of the bay there's a big sick left that rarely gets surfed.

I surfed here as long ago as 1980... Over the years many surfers from the Saltburn and Whitby area with many from further afield have discovered Runswick's inner and outer reefs. The beach break by Yacht club gets up to around eight feet. If you want to feel the power, wait till Saltburns blown out. Tom and Rossy surfed the outer reef 10-12ft in the early 90's. Good enough to run the Eaat Coast vs. Scotland a decade or so ago too. Remember when Saltburns blown out Runswicks pumpin'. Respect the local surfers and they will welcome you on the peak.
