Do not surf here on an outgoing tide unless you fancy a trip abroad as it has a strong undertow. Long shore drift can also be a problem. You can have this beach to yourself most days or share it with the friendly locals. Buy a longboard and have a smile.
A beachbreak that picks up any southerly swell as consistent as Aberdeen with no crowds, steep fast lefts and long mellow rights. Its peaks break up and down the beach, south end on a north swell and vice versa. Beware of the rips at the river mouth.
A nice beachbreak that works well in a wide range of conditions. Sharing the waves is more of a novelty than a nuisance as it is never crowded. Try the far north and south ends of the bay depending on swell direction. It is also popular with canoeists & windsurfers.
I have surfed here several times see the local landowner who will let you camp for a £1 a night. Watch out for the salmon nets and the currents! It has excellent long board waves in very secluded place. Keep searching!!!!
Had one of my best sessions ever here, even after living in Cornwall for the summer! 4 to 6 foot glassy, hollow waves all to myself. Lunan is one of the best east coast breaks and can be very good in the right conditions. It's never crowded.
What can I say! there always seems to be swell here, all summer it's been longboardable. I always have the best sessions here. Sharing a 2 mile stretch of beach with a handful of surfers is great!
Lunan bay is the place to be if you want to catch perfect waves for longboarders all year round.
The waves vary from 1ft to 5ft most of the time. Waves peel from the left, but the best breaks are at the North of the beach. Dont go in when the tides going out there is a real strong rip and under tow.
