Works best on a SW swell. The south end of the beach is sheltered from cross winds, while the north end just before the dunes has a couple of decent sand banks.
There are hazards when the tide is high. You can't see the groins so you have to watch the beach line and there are also strong rip currents down at Ynyslas bars.
Works well on a big south westerly in the southern corner, breaking left over a small reef then peeling left over sand and rocks. Beach break style further up the beach, with sea defences. I got it in early spring when chest to head high. I found a really good vibe in the water amongst the locals, contrary to what I had been told!
A good beach break. There are various spots down the 2 mile beach which work. The south end of the beach is the cleaner wave but can also be smaller compared to the dunes area. The locals are friendly with no attitude.
We are property restorers currently working in Borth and after work love nothing more than to spend our evenings surfing. The waves in Borth seem to be increasing year by year, some days the surf is excellent and should definatly be tried by one and all!
