Had a great surf here when Cayton looked a bit too serious... Had crystal (brown water) and small glassy waves. Good facilities on the beach.
However look out for the select few village idiots, executing hawain duck dives in a 2ft swell???, is there some thing in the water round here or what???
Pretty much the same as South bay in Scarborough. If it is a big northerly swell and messy it is sheltered in Filey. It works best on a southeasterly swell with offshore winds.
A good surfing beach that is easy to find, with free parking. The brigg stops most of the big waves getting through, but still makes for a good surf. A good spot for beginners! Further south down the beach away from the brigg the wave height tends to increase.
Works on swell from the north round to the east because the beach faces north at the south end and east at the north end. The north end gets clogged with tourists in summer but there's no swell then anyway. Can be a nice longboard wave on its day.
Filey goes off on big swells of 4ft + but usually small through the summer. The best place is further down at Reighton Sands or Hunmanby gap, big rips though.
