These guys are all talking rubbish. There is no discharge pipe on this beach, there is no 60 yard left, and there are no good sand banks. The water is clean, the left hander over the submerged rocks at low tide can be OK but is usually spoiled by the rip that holds it up until it dumps in unison with the rest of the 600 yard section across the beach. If you check Whipsy often, you may be rewarded with a few quiet decent waves, but they will tend to close out at low tide and back off with the backwash at mid to high tide. I love it.
This is sheltered from southerly winds, but tons of rancid shit is discharged right on the take off spot. Once I was shitting my pants for days afterwards. It has a nice shape and can be heavy and wedgy. It has small crowds but is not worth the risk.
On the push, low to mid Whipsderry has a great left hander that can go for up to 60 meters. Far less busy than Watergate and you can take advantage of the evening carnage in Newquay.
This is my local break and personal favourite (apart from Penhale Corner) and on its day it goes off! This has both excellent rights and lefts. It's never crowded even in the hectic summer months and can hold a huge swell easily. Excellent sand bars!
