This was the best beach during my 10 day stay - the wave was spoilt though by winds blowing a hoolie on shore, made it very messy but was one of the best beaches available during what was a lame 10 day visit. There are two other beaches not listed on this site on the coastline between amado and castelejo, you will need to take the dirt road between Sagres and the light house to find them, turn left off the track at the spooky farm house and explore. One of these beaches I surfed at sunset just me and my friend - no-one else in sight.
Sept '03: The week I was there it was for experts. Big sets every so often that leveled all. Strong currents and rocks in places that get covered at high tide but not enough!
Despite being the local spot for nearby surf schools, when we rocked up on the cliff top, our jaws dropped - solid double overhead reeling A-frames. With nice banks all through the tides, they're better suited to someone of a above average skill level, with nice long barrels to be had over several peaks spread out across the bay.
A fabulous spot, but definitely not fot beginners when it's on - I got spanked! Stay away from the point unless you know what you're doing. The beach cafe does tasty cheeseburgers.
An ok beach, but is really overcrowded. Avoid it at peak times in the summer months. Although the little beach cafe overlooking the beach is excellent.
I went when the wind was northerly and north westerly. It picks up pretty much any NW swell but was very lumpy, not for beginers unless they stay in the shallows. Guaranteed waves but no fun unless offshore winds, then I guess it's awesome.
Amazing Spot, great point break in the left side of the beach. Sweet and nice local people, specially the famous Vizuka, one of the greatest surfers on the area.
Don´t tell others about this spot, we want to keep in secret and wild!
Joanna, I love you!
Great breaks, and it IS good for beginners, although some waves can get pretty steep so its good enough for competition standard, has some stong currents on the northern end. Alot or respect on the water, well chilled-out atmosphere. Kicked ass!
