Excellent beach but little swell. In the 10 days of September I spent based in Sagres, this local beach only had any wave for two days. It needs a good swell in Biscay to make it work and the profile of the beach means that anything on high tide will close out immediately and dump you into the sand. Few rocks remain now, mainly pebbles to the left that are easily exposed at low, and some rocks to the right near to the beach cafe. Well sheltered from most winds so surf keeps clean.
In June '97 I witnessed in summer heat, 3-4ft perfection and lines as far as the eye could see. I'd checked most south beaches with no result EXCEPT Mareta. I've yet to see anything like it. On the day it was breaking with a perfect left and right from the middle! I'd left the camera at the apartment. I was a beginner so didn't go in but I wish I had now. I've been to Algarve 9 times...
