Challaborough has a wicked hollow beach break at high tide. Out on the right hand point there's a reef break that works at low tide that produces some nice hollow waves in the right conditions (look out for the rock bottom as my brother got a black eye out there). It's not for the faint hearted.
Popular with Plymouth Uni students. Gets crowded at weekneds with any sort of swell running. The beach is good because the wave size decreases slightly the further towards the car park you get, which means it can have managable waves for every level of riding. It's quite a hollow fun wave which gives you plenty of speed through the sections but nothing like the reef on the right of beach at the end of the rocks. Conditions have to be good for it to work but when it does it is fast, hollow and dangerous. Watch out for the rocks barely submerged at the end of the reef, I've kissed that too many times. It is in line with a faster section which you need speed to get out of, if you don't you will get rolled over the rock.
Full of locals, non-locals, students and crazy scotsmen, all of who love to burn each other on a regular basis. Good on its day but sadly turns into an aquatic obstacle course even on weekdays. Banks have been exceptionally bad of late. Be sure to check out the pasties at ringmore stores!
I'd rather stab pins in my eyes than surf this place again. it's crowded, got agressive locals, closes out on 99/100 waves, and gets daily floods of brown lumpy water comeing down straight from the sewage works at the top of the hill. heaven.
